Smothered Hamburger Steak

Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 egg
¼ cup breadcrumbs
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion, sliced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
Instructions:
Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and shape the mixture into 4 patties.
Cook the Steaks:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and mushrooms. Sauté until tender and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
Make the Gravy:
Pour the beef broth into the skillet with the onions and mushrooms. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then stir in the cornstarch slurry. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
Combine and Simmer:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Serve:
Plate the smothered hamburger steaks with the onion and mushroom gravy. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite vegetables for a comforting and hearty meal.
